Phil Rizzuto, the famous Yankee shortstop, leveraged his popularity in New York to transition into broadcasting as his on-field career was winding down. These recordings are from a syndicated program that aired in 1954, just two years before he was released by the Yankees. Known as "The Scooter," Rizzuto had a unique way of speaking that resonated with working-class fans, making his play-by-play commentary, filled with personal stories and insights, a must-listen.
In these two episodes, Rizzuto is joined by broadcasting legends Bill Stern and Yankee broadcaster Mel Allen. Originally recorded from transcription discs to tape in the 1970s, these episodes have recently been converted to digital files for your enjoyment.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
