The Willows

4.6

The Willows is a masterful exploration of the uncanny, set against the backdrop of a remote wilderness. Two friends embark on a canoe trip along the Danube, seeking adventure and solitude, but soon find themselves ensnared in a web of supernatural occurrences that challenge their understanding of reality.

As they navigate the eerie landscape, the natural beauty of the willows becomes a source of dread, revealing the thin veil between the known and the unknown. Algernon Blackwood's atmospheric prose immerses listeners in a world where the familiar turns unsettling, and the forces at play are both ancient and inexplicable.

Regarded by H.P. Lovecraft as one of the finest supernatural tales in English literature, The Willows exemplifies early modern horror and the tradition of weird fiction. This haunting narrative invites listeners to confront the mysteries that lie just beyond the edge of perception.

Preferred reading

This is only my opinion but I think Phil Cavenerte reads this version (version 2) much better than the original version. As for the book itself, it's by Algernon Blackwood. No more need be said.

fantasticly creepy

One of those old stories that are still genuinely scary today. The reading is professional!

Definitely a chiller

Lots of suspense. Phil's reading really drew you into the story

Wonderfully read. A bizarre tale of parallel universes and interrelated life forms.
