I had really liked pride and prejudice. So I thought I'll try this. Though dragged in certain places, I liked the book. One would enjoy it if they're Jane Austens fan. Regarding the reader. I have no words. She was excellent. Ever expression filled in the voice. Very entertaining. I'd have given only the book 4 stars. The 5 star is definitely for the reader. Kudos.

I thought this was a great narration. it is free. and I can listen while doing other things. That's what we should remember...if we don't like what we hear we should pick up a book and read it ourselves! great book!

I agree with another reviewer that the first narrator's voice is extremely irritating and monotone. It definitely changes the way this book is perceived. I agree that it's wonderful that people volunteer to read these books, but she should probably look into a different type of volunteer work. Sorry :-(

I have read Emma a few times. It is one of my favorite novels. I find it difficult to read now, so listening to Ms Crowther was a real pleasure. Her clarity and expression made it very easy listening. Thank you!

Narrator was irritating to me

I have wanted to read or listen to Emma for some time, and this was the source I chose. The narrator's cadence and uncomfortable speech pattern drove me nuts. A few words were mispronounced, not a big deal, but it added to my irritation. I know what an effort reading aloud can be, and I realize that these are volunteers, but it made this book very difficult to get through. I wondered if it was the story or the voice, so I checked out a different audio version from my library as a comparison, and it was like I was hearing a completely different story. If you start to listen, and don't enjoy the main narrator's speech pattern, dialect, voice, or pronunciations, then I recommend you get this book elsewhere. It doesn't get any better...

Narration distracted from story

It's already been mentioned, but I should say that I also found the cadence and tone monotonous, so it really takes the listener out of the story. And there's also a noticeable amount of mispronounced words, which did not help the matter. I'd suggest finding a different reading if you prefer more engaging narrations.

Very well read and entertaining story

The reader does an excellent job reading clearly and I like that she did the entire book, however, I wish she had done something more to differentiate the characters with her voice. A lot of it was very monotone and it was often difficult to tell which character may have been speaking. But her voice was very pleasant and nearly lulled me to sleep several times. The story itself is good, has some humor about it and is overall satisfying. It peaked my interest faster than Pride and Prejudice
