Audrey Craven
May Sinclair
Leído por Expatriate

In May Sinclair’s remarkable first novel, Audrey Craven is a beautiful young woman who has by her idiosyncrasies acquired a thoroughly undeserved reputation for originality. In fact, Audrey is a shallow, selfish, malleable person of negligible intelligence, with a fastidious horror of anyone who might be considered a nobody. Her pursuit of the stimulation of extraordinary minds (and her persistent fantasy of being somebody’s Muse) brings her into contact with serious women and men representing the profoundest passions of art, religion, science, and love. The question is, will these encounters prove to be her salvation, or will her vindictive self-centeredness damage the ardent lives she touches? (Expatriate) (7 hr 18 min)

Reseñas
May Sinclair is merciless! in a good way

Leah NYC
This novel, less serious than the Great War books for which I am following reader Expatriate as I write this review, is thoroughly delightful in its merciless portrayal of ... well you can find out for yourself. Reader Expatriate, of whose reading and choices I am now a fan, brings intelligence and inflection to everything he reads. Perhaps less important to some, his voice is free of the dreaded vocal fry, thank g-d.
unheralded brilliance

expatriate is an extraordinary reader especially for the super long Victorian books. As close to reading the text oneself as possible. The controlled expessipn in dialogue is perfect and the avoidance of theatre otherwise is a relief. I know you rely on volunteers but some render the books unlistenable...thick non English , quirky British and American accents, high pitched voices.....
Brutal!

The story is n in-depth portrayal of a comely person of breathtaking shallowness surrounded by people who love who they believe she is. It is very well narrated by expatriate. Can the people around her lead her to a revelation of humanity?
Didn't grab me.

I got to near the end of chapter 6, but I just can't get interested. I really struggle with American readers. To those of us used to the British accent, American readers sound quite monotone.
Enjoyable

Good story - very nice solo reading and sound quality. Thank you Expatriate!
