"What a joy! How exciting!" Margret Kendall returned home, to her loving and equally beloved mother's arms after 4 years in the slums of New York City- where she endured unimaginable hardships. This hardship made the naturally brilliant nine-years-old strong, resourceful, and full of questions which her mother finds it hard to answer. But this is not the end of the problems she would have to face. Those will include her mother's intended marriage, her need to get along with her stepfather's people, and her ever present worry about her poor friends from New York who were there for her in her darkest moments. This book is full of twists and turns, but you can hang on to the sub-title "How Margaret Solved Her Problems", and feel more of its magic. You may think this is a dark book. Yes, it has it's dark parts. But it is also humorous, beautifully written and uplifting.

Note that the prequel to this book, Cross Currents, is also available as an audiobook from the LibriVox catalog (Summary by Stav Nisser) (5 hr 47 min)

It is a nice story. In chapters 13, 33 and 41, it is very difficult to understand the reader. If you slow down the speed it helps.

I would give this 5 stars for content. One reader is very hard to understand... Very disappointing on the last chapter especially!

wonderful book ....

...and hope that someday it will be read by a good solo reader. It deserves it

Enjoyable

(3 stars)

A lovely book about the life of a young girl and her trials and tribulations she has endured. The short chapters makes it difficult to keep a thread on the story. Well read by most of the narrators. Couldnt understand the narrator in the last chapter, shame ill never know the ending

Great story

(5 stars)

A gripping tale. However, it was spoilt by a few of the different readers, one of which was extremely hard to understand

Some of the readers are very good, but some are a little hard to understand.

of its time

if you can get past the bad readers and the preachiness, it's a good love story.
