Reviews

Jane Eyre (dramatic reading)

(5 stars)

Outstanding! The reader for Jane made this amazing book a delight to listen to. This is one of my all-time favorite books, having read it (the old fashioned way) many times. In fact, most all the readers were wonderful. The only exception being the reader for Helen Burns. I would recommend having a print version handy for the Helen Burns scenes to read along with, especially if they are special to you. It is a pity such beautifully written lines were almost unintelligible by a thick accent and hurried reading. That is my only quibble, and really, I just want to prepare future listeners. Helen is a small part in comparison, and the rest of the book flows beautifully. I cried and smiled throughout this book, sometimes at the same time. Very well done, I will probably listen again soon :)

the quality of the recording needs improvement

(3 stars)

The quality of the recording is not of high standard. Jane Eyre is absolutely wonderful and clear. Some minor characters, on the other hand, are difficult to understand. I had to switch to version 2 for some of the chapters. Between the two versions I thoroughly enjoyed the novel.

a sad romantic love story

(4 stars)

this book is better than the movies i have seen because the book has so many more details about jane's life that are really important to the story. the readers mostly did a fine job. a few chapters while jane is at school do not have good audio or the readers were hard to understand, so i listened to those chapters in another version of audio. but once jane heads to thornefield the audio is excellent, emotionally riveting at points..

(3.5 stars)

The burden of listening to some characters’ is so great that if it weren’t for others like Jane, Adele, Blanche Ingram, and Mrs Fairfax that do very well and even excellently, I might switch to another recording altogether. Mr. Rochester is most disappointing; no offense to the reader who himself has a wonderful drawling bass voice, but it’s so alarming to hear him speak Rochester’s words because he says all of them, tender and gruff alike, in the same sprawling voice.

Jane Eyre

(5 stars)

Amazing, outstanding. This dramatic version of the story is fantastic to listen too as each character is read by a different person and the feeling the readers put into their characters makes the book come alive. I will definitely be listening to more if the dramatic versions on this app. Find it great to listen in the car on my way to work. working my way through favourite Bronte and Austin novels.

A Shame

(3 stars)

Helen is unintelligible and it sounds like the audio was perhaps sped up. She sounds like a toddler with a large vocabulary, which is disarming because the character is supposed to be older than Jane. I too am switching to another version because of this, 1/3 through. I wish I’d read the reviews before starting, apparently I’m not the first to be perturbed by this inclusion in an otherwise decent reading.

One of my favourite books ever. I've read it at least 3 times & now I've heard it, too. The actors are all good, except that the one (__ Burns) is hard to understand, & unfortunately Mr. Rochester is sadly lacking in expression. Really too bad in that role. But Jane's reader is perfect. Thank-you to all!

narrator- jane

(4 stars)

Helen Burns voice very difficult to hear/ understand. With re-recording helen this would be a 5 star rating. Jane Eyre / narrator is spectacular! loved listening to this. Rochester sounds like he is 80 instead of 40, but an acquired voice. thank you for a wonderful recording of a classic book.
