With Clive in India
G. A. Henty
Leído por Gary Olman
With Clive in India gives a vivid picture of the wonderful events of the ten years, which at their commencement saw Madras in the hands of the French--Calcutta at the mercy of the Nabob of Bengal--and English influence apparently at the point of extinction in India--and which ended in the final triumph of the English, both in Bengal and Madras. There were yet great battles to be fought, great efforts to be made, before the vast Empire of India fell altogether into British hands; but these were but the sequel of the events described. great story

This was one of my favorite of Henty’s books books so far. I think it does a very good job of demonstrating the historical attitudes of the British and French towards each other as well as towards the Indians. The story of the characters is effectively intermixed with the historical events. Definitely worth reading.

Great story and historical information. Unbearable mispronunciation and grunting.

your narrator is not very well read
Pure Water-boarding Torture
Avid Listener
If you don't mind listening to a reader that has difficulty pronouncing words, and mischievously shouts out words from the blue to burst your ear drums ... it's not so bad. Re: the story, it began well but about a quarter of the way through, sounded like an exact play by play account of every cricket match conducted in India for the year 1977.
good book, good narrator
Michael Milne
I'm enjoying the book and the narration. Some others have expressed dissatisfaction with him but I guess I just like hearing people speak in regional accents.
Interesting book, but…

By the end of chapter 7 I had given up on this reader. You may have more tolerance for endless volleys of disastrously mispronounced words.
PDXer
The story teller struggles to read smoothly and pronounce names. Still, I appreciate all the time he puts into reading GA Henty’s books.
