Critiques

Great Job reading by this female collaborative !

(4 stars)

About a third the way through. The first part of the book seemed to be your typical trials and tribulations of the bourgeois. But it changes into interesting ideas about problems that we are wrestling with today too, like the swiftly widening wealth gap between an elite few and the many. Embarrassed to admit not knowing much about the author William Dean Howells, i being an American. I found out that Howells was a leading figure in late 19th, early 20th century american literature. As well as being a writer, journalist, publisher, he not only was a critic on matters literary but also socially and morally. Howell's was a member of the Christian Socialists movement, very interesting....to be continued, if i don't forget. some levity, an attempt at anyways: A child was eating a piece of pie his grandmother recently baked. Grand ma mah asks grandchild: Do you know what keeps the upper crust together? grandchild: umah?, (child looks at top crust)....no, i don't have a clue grandma. Grandmother: Most of everyone else's "dough" for a few crumbs on top. dahszil male usa(but "more than of Athens, a citizen of the world" or something like that -- Socrates, circa 5th century b.c.)

southern accent in Massachusetts???

(3.5 stars)

Why would a native of rural Massachusetts have a southern accent. Please, just read books in your natural voice.
