The Lamplighter

Read by Bridget Gaige

(4.8 stars; 99 reviews)

Gertrude began life as an abused child in the care of Nan Grant, a cold and cruel woman. The only human character who was kind to her was the lamplighter, Truman Flint. When Nan, in one of her tantrums, threw Gertrude away from her house, he took her into his care. A few unforgettable people taught Gertrude everything that a young lady has to know. Almost everybody loves and admires Gertrude. But the one she loved best is Willie Sullivan. Will this love stay strong even after 6 years of separation? And will Gertrude, so admired and loved as she is, be happy - once in her life - for herself and not for others? (Summary by Stav Nisser) (17 hr 27 min)

The Light Within

(5 stars)

I think this book had many religious undertones. It was about the light within and how that is what makes people truly beautiful. I am not very religious but the story was very nice and quite uplifting. Bridget does her usual fabulous job of narration. Her voice is young and spirited which makes you believe she is Gertrude.

Heart warming story of an orphaned girl who finds her way in life through the kindness of others. I wish they would make a movie series out of this book like they did with “ Ann of Green Gables” . It’s a book I could listen to more than once.

great book.

I loved this book ,but I don't think that we can call this a romance novel,it was not much romance in it,what I liked about this book was the love and care of the father for his daughter.

wonderful Read!

This was the first book I have read from this author and it was a treasure. Wonderful descriptions, and yet not flowery. The reader did a fine job and I recommend this book whole heartedly.

An All Time Favorite!

I either read or listen to this book every few years and love the story & how the author weaves everything together, reminding me of God's Providence in the happenings of man.

A charming story

A truly touching story with an account of an interesting time. The reader is affective. I now miss the company of the characters and have begun hulling my strawberries before I eat them.

A wonderful story. I was so happy that it continued for so many chapters! New mysteries occasionally came to the surface which kept up my interest. The Christian thoughts and principles were a blessing.

A lovely book full of good morals and Christian virtues. A bit long winded betimes but worth listening to. A 5 star reader. A 5 star book except for being so long winded. Thanks!!
