Anna Katharine Green (November 11, 1846 – April 11, 1935) was an American poet and novelist. She was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well plotted, legally accurate stories (no doubt assisted by her lawyer father). (9 hr 36 min)

What a story

(5 stars)

Due to the reviews I played the 1st minute or so of several chapters to be sure I could understand them. I then listened to the entire book in July of 2016 & had no problems understanding any of the readers. There were 2-3 chapters where I could hear a buzzing sound but it sounded like low level background noise. The readings were much louder so it wasn't very noticeable. One was chapter 1. If you're really concerned listen to it for a few minutes to see that you can understand the reading. I really enjoyed this mystery. There were some great twists & turns that kept me interested & guessing. Was it suicide or murder? Was she shot or stabbed? These are pretty huge questions to have & they're just the beginning! There's a love story here also but it's not overly mushy or anything. It's just a great story overall that you should listen to.

Not her best work but enjoyable. Liked the reading (miss some of the readers - wish they were still here). If you like AKG this will give you a scope of her writing.

This book deserves better...

(3 stars)

AKG is a great author, and most of her books are 4 or 5 star quality. This book is probably only a 2 or 3 because of the issues with the reading. Some of the chapters are very poorly done, with feedback (the p sounds you get when someone is too close to the mic) heard. Some are filled with background noises and the equalizer cannot filter them out. I had to skip a few chapters because my ears couldn't handle the noises. Really, those need to be redone. The storyline is interesting, done from multiple perspectives, and we get to hear more about the famous AKG character, Inspector Gryce, but it is hard to get into due to the recording issues.

The best by A.K. Green I've read

This one not only kept me guessing but built in my caeing about all the characters in different ways. The plot was by far the most ingenious of this authors work and I have very much enjoyed many of her other stories. Narration was good throughout even though it had many readers, with the exception of one chapter that was a bit difficult to listen to and had poorer quality recording and back ground noise. But it was worth listening through as the story was so very good.

The Reader

(2.5 stars)

The readers rarely affect my enjoyment of a story to the extent that one reader in this story did. Her speech was painfully slow and her character voices made the narrator sound like a complete twit. I realize this is done by volunteers and hate to be so critical but this truly put me off listening to a story I was initially quite interested in. I even tried to come back to it. Couldn't do it. I will gladly read this one for myself.

ouch

Really wanted to give this book a chance. KG had a bad habbit of adding words just to add them. unfortunately, I can tell by some of the readers, this point is true. i hope this is read by a solo reader who can smooth out those wasteful words.

A gripping tale. Chapter 29 (Do You Know My Brother?) was quite difficult for me to hear; there was a lot of background noise and the volume seemed to vary. That disappointed me because it was a significant chapter.

Good title this Initials only

I think it takes a little genius to create a story like this. There are twists and turns within twists and turns. I think this is one of the Ms. Green’s best novels.
