The Wrong Box
Robert Louis Stevenson
Gelesen von Andy Minter (1934-2017)

The Wrong Box is a comedy about the ending of a tontine (a tontine is an arrangement whereby a number of young people subscribe to a fund which is then closed and invested until all but one of the subscribers have died. That last subscriber then receives the whole of the proceeds). The story involves the last two such survivors and their relations, a train crash, missing uncles, surplus dead bodies and innocent bystanders. A farce really. (Summary by AJM) (6 hr 20 min)

RLS SHOWS A NEW SIDE

AVID READER
A most enjoyable farce, no doubt heavily influenced by the co-author. Farces sometimes fall flat as one reads them. This one, however could not do so since it was read by the formidable Andy Minter. His death certainly left a huge hole in the Librivox family!

I don't know when I've enjoyed a story more. Maybe there weren't any pirates but this character-driven story is truly hilarious and wonderful and Andy Minter's reading brings it brilliantly to life.
Robert Louis Stevenson "lite"

This is a fun frolic, quite amusing and intriguing for the first half but grew a bit stale by the second. Mr. Minter's narration was excellent and was probably the reason why I stuck with book long after I grew bored with the tale. Probably would be more enjoyable if you don't go into it expecting one of Stevenson's "yipping good yarns" but rather a light comedy.
superbly red farce

Lord de Ville
another superlative reading from the late Andy Minter.. Once again. he provides a distinctive voice to each of the characters thus giving extra vitality to an already lively text the story itself is a ripping yarn packed with well-developed characters, coincidences and intrigue. This is definitely well worth investing your time in..
The Wrong Box is delightful

I havent laughed so hard in a long time! What a hidden gem of book, who knew Stevenson had such a sense of humour when weaving this intricate tale.
Fascinating

The story has lovely twists and turns. The characters are not admirable but are memorable. And the reader has a wonderful accent and voices; even the boring passages we're made interesting.

Very funny indeed! And read sublimely. Thank you Librivox for saving my sanity with this zany novel, and thanks eternally to Andy Minter, may he rest in any way that suits him!

Andy Minter made this story a joy. As he made everything he read. A very talented man , and very kind man to give so much of his talent so freely
