Gunsmoke is a Western radio drama set in Dodge City, Kansas, where U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon works to keep order on a rough frontier. The series centers on Dillon and the people around him, including deputy Chester Proudfoot, saloon owner Kitty Russell, and Doc Adams.
Episodes unfold as dramatic stories of law, justice, and life on the frontier. Gunfights and crime are part of the setting, but the program also gives weight to the choices and consequences facing its characters, with dialogue and sound effects bringing the town and its conflicts to life.
William Conrad’s performance as Dillon gives the marshal a steady, thoughtful presence, balancing toughness with compassion. The result is a grounded Western drama with a serious tone and a strong sense of place.
