Gunsmoke is a Western radio drama set in Dodge City, Kansas, where Marshal Matt Dillon works to keep order on a rough frontier. The stories center on Dillon and the people around him, including deputy Chester Proudfoot, Doc Adams, and saloonkeeper Kitty Russell.
Episodes combine crime, conflict, and moral choices with the everyday pressures of life in a growing frontier town. Dillon’s work may bring him into confrontations with outlaws and dangerous strangers, while the town’s residents offer a more personal view of the consequences of violence and the demands of justice.
The program is known for its serious, atmospheric storytelling and strong sound design, which gives its gunfights, horses, and quiet moments a vivid presence. Its measured pace and grounded characters make Gunsmoke a compelling listen for fans of character-driven Western drama.
