Freeman Wills Crofts was part of the golden age of detective fiction, along with the likes of Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler. His most famous creation, Inspector Joseph French of Scotland Yard, appeared in more than 30 novels between 1924 and 1957. Fellow golden age author Raymond Chandler described Crofts as "the soundest builder of them all”, and Agatha Christie included a parody of French in a 1929 collection of short stories.

In this story, cinema box office cashiers are dying in mysterious circumstances. With few clues and little time, will Inspector French succeed in capturing the Purple Sickle and his confederates before they can claim another victim?

Kept my interest

ASharma does a nice narration. He occasionally takes the voice of the evil characters which is fun. The story is almost believable for the time in which it occurs. It wasn't obvious (to me) how the criminals were working their scheme until well into the story. There was plenty of mystery as well as many unfortunate victims. The author does a good job of giving personality to the characters.

Great story read to perfection by Mr. Sharma; great inflection, cadence, awesome character voices and exquisite annunciation. Thank you sir for your excellent performance. Now that you're on my radar I'll have to listen to all your titles that peak my interests.

“Soapy Joe”( French) does it again. Disheartening setbacks, the inevitable wisdom of Mrs. F., and his own insight and determination solves a truly ingenious manner of “theft” as well as murder.

I love all mysteries, good bad and indifferent. I thought inspector French was a little dense, but still enjoyable!
