Meet the Press is a television and radio interview program built around direct questioning of prominent public figures. In this installment, the guest is Hyman Rickover, the U.S. Navy admiral known for leading the development of the nuclear-powered submarine program.
The program’s familiar format brings a guest before a panel of journalists for a sustained interview. Rather than presenting a scripted drama, it offers a close listen to the guest’s answers, the panel’s follow-up questions, and the exchange of views on matters of public interest.
Rickover’s appearance offers a period snapshot of a consequential military and engineering leader speaking in a public forum. The appeal lies in hearing ideas tested through pointed questions and in the immediacy of an interview unfolding in conversation.
