THE BIG STORY is based on real life news stories, featuring murder and other violent crime cases from the perspective of a newspaper reporter. This unique and exciting format dramatizes a different news reporter and their heroic deed each week. According to the ads of the day, this program starred "a reporter who has solved a crime, exposed a corrupt political administration, smashed a racket, or performed some other notable public service.

At the end of each program, the real news reporter was brought on the air and given a $500 reward by the sponsor of the show, Pall Mall. Big Story was a great success, ranking among the top old time radio shows of its day. In its first year on the air, it even topped the ratings of Bing Crosby's Philco Radio Time. Great. But No "A Hero's Life" Theme

I recall other THE BIG STORY shows that had Richard Strauss's A HERO'S LIFE open for an opening theme. The audio is pretty good. Some shows are muffled, so I have to bring up the mid range to make it clear. So for that, I brought down the rating a bit. Not for the show's content but for audio quality.

This is preserving history. I am hoping the younger folks will listen to this and try to get a picture of what was going on in the entertainment world back in the old days. I love it. I was born in the 50's and can't get enough! Thanks to all that helped bring this to the public.
