Adventure Ahead - Single Episodes
ADVENTURE AHEAD! was a brilliant summer feature in 1944, comprised of fourteen stirring adventure novels and stories from America's greatest fiction writers. Although it was billed as 'famous stories for young people', its somewhat more masculine orientation may have kept some young females of the era listening to Frank Sinatra instead. Each of these literary choices had a uniting theme—defending freedom, both domestically and abroad.
The series includes classic tales such as Robinson Crusoe and The Three Musketeers, along with lesser-known stories that capture the imagination of young listeners. The selections range from coming-of-age tales to adventures filled with moral dilemmas, providing a rich tapestry of narratives that resonate with themes of courage and independence. This gem of a short series is a wonderful reminder of the inspirational fare of the 1940s during a world at war.

It's fantastic to come across these wonderful Old-Time Radio programs, from an era before my time, when a gripping, good old-fashioned yarn could be spun without the interference of the type of hall-monitor political correctness apparent in the synopsis of the program. In fact, the lamentation by that writer, about the failure of the program to observe Current Year "victim-oppressor" ideology, was one of the things that highly recommended the series to me. It should be noted that those who complain about lack of modernity in (key words) OLD TIME radio, are the ones who are "completely out of touch". I thoroughly enjoyed this series! I highly recommend it; and I also highly recommend that everyone who enjoys these programs take the time to download and preserve the episodes for their own person enjoyment and safe-keeping. Because, ladies and gentlemen, the hall-monitor censors are coming for EVERTHING.

Heaven help the student who reads this and calls Crusoe an "American" classic, unless referring to the location of the shipwreck! Both English author and character(bound for Brazil), although the actor here has an American accent. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Defoe Long title: "The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pirates"
