Jimmy Clitheroe Radio Sketches
Enjoy a collection of variety sketches performed by the talented English comedian Jimmy Clitheroe. This compilation features a single sketch from the radio variety series Blackpool Night, originally transmitted on June 18, 1966, on the BBC Light Programme. Although this item is unfortunately incomplete, it offers a glimpse into the charm of Clitheroe's performances.
Additionally, you will find the recently discovered North Star Parade, which was first broadcast on January 20, 1966, on the North of England regional transmitters of the Home Service, and had its only national broadcast on April 11, 1966, on the Light Programme. This long-lost variety show was produced in Manchester by James Casey and features a host of talented performers including Wilfred Pickles, Albert Modley, Ronnie Hilton, Eddie Calvert, Danny Ross, Barbara Robotham, Peter Goodwright, and The Barry Sisters.
Also included is a script for a radio sketch from 1956 starring Jimmy Clitheroe, known as the Cricket Sketch, which aired on July 18, 1956, on the BBC Light Programme. The audio items presented here do not survive in the BBC archive and have been rescued from recordings made by listeners in the 1960s.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
