Persuasion (version 3)
Jane Austen
Gelesen von Moira Fogarty

"All the privilege I claim for my own sex ... is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone." In persuasion, her last novel, Austen explores the theme of postponed but enduring love, delayed by class boundaries and excessive pride. Anne Elliot, the story's aged (27 year old) heroine, suffers from a decision that was forced upon her several years ago—to break off a relationship with Capn. Frederick Wentworth, the man she deeply loved. As Austen examines the causes and consequences of this action, she sketches for us the social complexities of being part of the upper-middle-class in England at the beginning of the nineteenth century. I'm not a Jane Austen fan, which seems to make me an exception. This kept my interest with a very likeable heroine and the challenging relationships she had to deal with. Her sister Mary, was quite the unlikeable person, as were her father and sister Elizabeth. The snobbery of the class system was emphasized by Austen, for which I do admire her work, along with subtle humor here and there, especially in the workings of gossip and comments on women's appearance. Quite entertaining. Thank you to the reader who was very pleasant to listen to.
Superbly Read

A more beautifully read version of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" can not be found elsewhere, I am sure. Ms. Fogarty's calm voice and clarity of speech combine to personify Anne Elliot's character--placid and full of depth. There is very little background noise, besides a slight rustle of a page and a police car which sounds toward the end of one of the chapters. I highly recommend Ms. Fogarty's reading, it is a sure enjoyment at any time whatsoever.
Beautiful indeed

I have not much to add to what has been said here already: Moira Fogarty reads the book so beautifully; subtle and distinct at the same time. I loved it. It is also my favourite of Austen's work.
Wonderful Reading

Ms. Fogarty's reading is a listening delight! Perfect, clear excellently enunciated and recorded! Really shines in narative text between dialog portions, which is difficult for many audio readers to accomplish. A great gift to her listeners!
Great job, very pleasant to listen to.
