Jimmy Clitheroe Collection : Theatre Shows


From the Jimmy Clitheroe collection, this series features recordings of live theatre shows from the 1960s. These recordings come from open reel tapes in the personal collection of professional English comedian Jimmy Clitheroe. While it is unclear whether he was directly involved in all these performances, they appear to be authentic recordings made in the theatre, rather than off television.

One notable item, "We're Frying Tonight," was a Summer Season show in which Jimmy starred for two consecutive years during the 1960s. This particular recording is definitely from one of his performances, featuring co-stars Mollie Sugden and Peter Butterworth. The recordings may have some distortion due to the limitations of the tape recorder and the quality of the theatre's sound system.

Jimmy Clitheroe, known for his cheeky schoolboy act, was a prominent figure in British showbusiness, performing in variety theatres, cinema, and on radio and television. He is most famous for his role in the radio comedy series "The Clitheroe Kid," which ran from 1956 until 1972.
