She had a world hit in 1963 with Dominique (track 2), a song about the founder of the Dominikans, and made other recordings. Later she left the order because of confrontations with her superior and the Catholic Church. She lived together with a female youth friend (with whom she contradicted having a sexual relationship) and could never restart her career because she was forbidden to use the name Soeur Sourire again. She tried to live a life devoted to God but was also involved in protests against the church. Later she got in financial difficulties (because she was senteced to pay income taxes subsequently even if her order had got all of her earnings) and at the end commited suicide with her friend. For me it seems that she was a "modern" woman in her time and broke down trying to live a godly life while maintaining a critical distance from the Church, who did often not do her well.
