A Lady's Life on a Farm in Manitoba
Mary Georgiana Caroline Hall
Leído por Sibella Denton

In 1881, Mrs. Cecil Hall's brother went to Manitoba to farm. In 1882, she went out for a visit of some two months, and followed that visit with a long sojourn in Colorado, returning to England as the snows began to fall. While there, she had to give up her "Lady's ways" and help on the farm in many ways she'd never stoop to at home. She makes hay, cooks, paints the barn roof, and cleans. Through it all, the newness helped her keep her temper, and these letters home show an insight into the settlement of Western Canada. These letters have a feel of "Little House on the Prairie" from an English lady's point of view. (Summary by Sibella Denton). (3 hr 22 min)

Reseñas
Interesting and well-read

Wendy Mathieu
It is always interesting to read first-hand accounts of those who pioneered. The mosquitoes would have been awful!
Interesting

Phxjennifer
The author is on vacation, doing housework and learning to cook as a lark, taking her BFF along and backstopped by the professional cook. She is worlds away from the isolation and relentless, backbreaking routine of most pioneers and farm wives. Still, she writes interesting letters, uncluttered with the fashionably florid prose of the Victorian era, and taking the occasional miseries (mosquitoes, lack of privacy, etc.) philosophically. Very well narrated, too.

oldman
Nice fast paced reading of letters of farm life in the 1880's. Well read by Sibella Denton another one of the very good and enjoyable readers on Librivox. Thank you so much Sibella enjoy!
Series of briskly written letters

Matthew McNaughton
The author doesn't go into much detail, but keeps things moving along. Her social class, and the fact that she is just visiting, seems to prevent her from learning much about the actual life of the people in the region. Reader's tapping at the keyboard to page down was distracting at times. Good reading overall.
Also includes Colorado

TLocke
This was more of a Travelog than expected, but we'll written and read. The author has a good eye in noticing details of lands, and to a lesser degree, the people that lived in the West of both Canada and US. Excellent reader.
Good insight into a woman's Frontier life
