OTRR Our Miss Brooks Singles
Al Lewis
Our Miss Brooks first took shape during the weekend of April 10-11, 1948, with an audition show featuring Shirley Booth. However, after disagreements with CBS head William Paley, Booth was replaced by Eve Arden, who became the beloved lead character, Connie Brooks, an English teacher at Madison High School. The show premiered on July 19, 1948, and quickly gained popularity, with the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet company becoming its first sponsor.
The series followed Connie Brooks as she navigated her feelings for biology teacher Philip Boynton, all while dealing with the antics of her principal, Osgood Conklin, and her landlady, Margaret Davis. The humor and storylines have remained relevant and entertaining, making it a cherished classic among old-time radio fans.
Written primarily by Al Lewis, the show ran for eight years and was adapted for television in 1952. A full-length motion picture was also released in 1956, marking the peak of the show's popularity. Although original episodes ceased production in 1956, reruns continued to air for another two years, and the series is still fondly remembered today.
