Beautiful Lofty Things - An Evening with WB Yeats In 2015 Ireland celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize-winning poet, William Butler Yeats. Yeats was awarded his Nobel Prize in 1923, for his "always inspired poetry, which, in a highly artistic form, gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation". Yeats' poetry ranged from lyrical to political, and some of his best-known poems can seem remarkably contemporary. The creative team of contributors were Iarla Ó Lionáird, Martin Hayes and Michael McHale, Sebastian Barry, John Montague, Marty Rea, Eavan Boland, Michelle O’Rourke, Tara Bergin, Lisa Dwan, Flo Mc Sweeney, Cormac DeBarra and Bill Whelan, Aoife Duffin and John Banville. Devised by Roy Foster, Lynne Parker and Maureen Kennelly, Beautiful Lofty Things Presented by Poetry Ireland in association with YEATS 2015 was recorded live at the National Concert Hall on Saturday, September the 12th 2015.
