This episode of the ABC program “Sentimental Journey” pays tribute to the legendary Pearl Mae Bailey, an American actress and singer known for her remarkable contributions to the arts. Born on March 29, 1918, Bailey made her Broadway debut in 1946 and won a Tony Award for her role in the all-black production of Hello, Dolly! in 1968.

In addition to her Broadway success, Bailey was recognized with a Daytime Emmy award in 1986 for her performance in the ABC Afterschool Special, Cindy Eller: A Modern Fairy Tale. Her hit rendition of "Takes Two to Tango" reached the top ten in 1952, and she was honored with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 1976, as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1988.
