Nelson Ackerman Eddy (June 29, 1901 – March 6, 1967) was an American singer and actor known for his performances in 19 musical films during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as in opera, radio, and television. A classically trained baritone, he is best remembered for his collaborations with soprano Jeanette MacDonald.
Eddy was a crossover star, appealing to both young fans and opera purists. He earned three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was the highest paid singer in the world during his peak. This tribute to Eddy, narrated by John West, was broadcast on the ABC program “Sentimental Journey” on March 7, 1981.
