The Baby Snooks Show
Robert Farrell
The Baby Snooks Show, sometimes referred to as Baby Snooks and Daddy, first aired on CBS on September 17, 1944, during Sunday evenings at 6:30 PM as Post Toasties Time, sponsored by General Foods. The show features Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks, alongside Henley Stafford as Lancelot "Daddy" Higgins, and Lalive Brownell as "Mommy" Higgins.
The character of Baby Snooks originated from a unique situation involving Fanny Brice's dental issues. Before a rehearsal, her dentist allowed her to leave without her dentures, making it difficult for her to speak. In a moment of creativity, the producer recalled a baby act that Fanny performed at gatherings, leading to the birth of Baby Snooks. The name was inspired by a lisping mispronunciation of "Schnooks," and the show quickly became a beloved classic.
