Mae West Banned From NBC Radio
Arch Oboler
This infamous episode of The Chase & Sanborn Hour aired on December 12, 1937, and was deemed "indecent" by the FCC, leading to Mae West's ban from NBC radio. The sketch featured Mae West as an unrepentant Eve alongside Don Ameche's Adam. The controversy surrounding the episode resulted in NBC receiving over 1,000 complaint letters.
Despite the uproar at the time, the skit seems tame by today's standards. Additionally, a writer named Jane Storm sued NBC and Oboler, claiming that part of the script was taken from her play, but the judge ruled against her.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
