History of the Civil War, 1861-1865
James Ford Rhodes
Read by Celine Major

Superbly written, this overview of the Civil War, won a Pulitzer Prize in History in 1918. Rhodes covers not only the battles and the generals of the war but gives us a good deal of insight into the politics, economics, international relations and the strategy/thinking of the times. When at times he brings forth an opinion it is clearly stated, so as not to be confused with the facts. Comprehensive and enjoyable, you will find this History of the Civil War both illuminating and captivating.

A Great Overview!

Keith Horvath
There have been 4-5 books read & listened to on the Civil War. A Union soldier's view & Confederates with their views on each General's and their commanding officers. Also how the Army worked, traveled supplied and managed the troops. In 1862-63, the Armies were, with a few differences, most equal in many categories. This changed in 1864. This book was a great look from above on the North and South. It showed the vast differences each had, in their beliefs, political structures & how they worked, lived & endured the War. And how each leader fathomed the difficulties of war in social & economies. Learned & understand much more on what happened and why.
Great book, bad narration

I read this book a number of years ago and enjoyed it. Was looking forward to listening to the audiobook. Couldn't even get through the preface. The narrator is so hard to listen to. Wrong voice for this book. Almost sounds digital and a bit strident.
love the story, but oh the voice.

Jeff Hauser
Great story, but the readers voice sounds so automated that just couldn't make it past the first few chapters. voice to text for sure.
