Sealtest Village Store 1945 01 18 AFRS#70

Sealtest Village Store, rebroadcast by the AFRS as Village Store, featured Joan Davis and Jack Haley. In this episode, Joan has inherited property in Lemoore, California. The show was produced in front of a live audience at Lemoore Army Air Field, with the audience responding with great laughter at local references made in the script.

Village Store ran from 1943 to 1945, and Joan Davis had a very successful comedic career on radio and in films, with moderate success on television. Her series I Married Joan co-starred Jim Backus, known for his voice of Mr. Magoo and Thurston Howell III on Gilligan's Island. The show became more popular after its network run ended and went into syndication.

Davis passed away in 1961 at age 53 due to heart problems. Village Store co-star Jack Haley was best known for playing the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz. This recording was transferred to tape from the AFRS transcription disc in the mid-1970s and has recently been digitized.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
