The murder has finally been solved. After 20 years, Humphrey Vargas came with his dog, seemingly from no where, and informed the magistrate of the county that he murdered the popular Mr. Blake. He even told the magistrate the whole story. This book picks up where other books end and shows how this revelation brings about a chain of unexpected events. Knowing who murdered such a popular man does not make things any easier around the county, as memories finally surface, and relationships may change forever. - Summary by Stav Nisser. (18 hr 54 min)

Who really did it?

(3.5 stars)

Before complaining about how someone reads aloud, please remember that every narrator donates their time and effort without pay. I really enjoy the different reading styles. “Just as I Am” had a variety of interesting characters. Even though the murderer was increasingly pointed to as the story progressed, it was thought-provoking to see how the various people responded to their growing understanding of what actually happened twenty years before. The old fashioned habits and ways of life always fascinate me, as well as the many ways in which human motives tend to stay the same throughout history.

Wonderful Story

(4 stars)

The murder mystery is well done with plenty of interesting sub-stories with well drawn characters. The four stars is due to the abrupt change in narrators near the end of the book. Annie is phenomenal and it would be difficult to finish any book she narrates. However, the second narrator has a halting reading style which was difficult to enjoy. Many thanks for the effort and it’d be a shame to pass up this very engaging story.

one of Brandon's best

I admit to preferring happy endings so I liked this story. The earlier readers were delightful. But the final reader, as others mentioned, definitely struggled a little more. I think she must have done multiple takes and edited them together which makes the story quite jumpy. note: I'm writing this for the audience who are trying to decide if they want to read this story.

I have to agree with other listeners, the last reader was very coarse in her reading, I couldn't get cuddled up with her presentation of the final chapters. It is too bad the first reader couldn't finish the final chapters, other then that a very good book. I am glad I chose this one to listen to.

The story itself is fine, but the narrator made it so dull with her voice, she is very clear spoken and good at narration and I appreciate her time spent on this audiobook, but I just didn’t find it enjoyable, it was very monotonous.

Interesting but a bit draggy

I was very sorry that there was a change in readers for the last few chapters. The first reader was excellent!
