great read

Really enjoyed the story and the reader.

Intense and suspenseful story. less predictable than some.

The book was very well read. It was an odd Zane Grey story, mostly about an unusual and improbable romance that was fairly incredible. There was little action overall. Although I like most of Zane Grey's works, I found this to be improbable and boring.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute all four times I heard the story...lol. Richard Kilmer does a great narration

This isn’t a bad book, until it gets to the end and begins to ramble on about how the heroine would have left the evil gold. Such sentiments were common in books of that period, but good grief. Richard Kilmer is, as always, superb. RIP

Joan as the main character is a coward and suffers badly from Stockholm Syndrome which causes her to make one stupid decision after another. And Jim as her love interest is just as weak minded, going along with all of Joan’s stupid decisions. Stupid story.

THE BEST ONE

My favorite of all the novels of ZG. The descriptions of the gold camp and of the bandits relations were so real. Character development was also deeper than usual. And the narration by RK was icing on the cake.

One of the Best!

Zane Grey delivers with this Western novel! The plot twists, action, intrigue and portrayal of human nature is as enjoyable to listen to as it is beautifully described. And the reader is fantastic! Enjoy!
