so many thanks for your reading of the book David. I was hooked from the first minute . I know this book is well over a hundred years old but it was as fresh and captivating as if it was new .
another Sherlock ripper

5 stars for the reader, 3 stars for the book . Not the best Sherlock story in my opinion, ( reminded one quite a bit of the set up of A Study in Scarlet) it was a bit bloody for me, with some great plot twists, though. But the reader!!! He did all of the individual voices( even for the minor characters!) and his accents were perfect! I felt that I could see each and every character and scene in my mind's eye. Thanks so much, Mr. Clarke!
Exciting and Brilliant!

I LOVE the Sherlock Holmes books!! I have been particularly enjoying these recordings by David Clark! He reads very well, and his voices make the story even easier to follow. He brings such life to these characters that I can visualize the whole scene while I do dishes, vacuum or commute. Thank You Mr. Clark for doing this project!!!!!
Words fail me.

the reading by Mr. David is so good. I am die-hard fan of Holmes, so I have obviously read this a hundred times. The reading by Mr. David Clarke is so great and brings each character come alive. Nuances if different tones, accents are superb. He is one of the best readers I have come across at Librivox.
Excellently Read

David Clarke did amazing! All the voices were great, and he nailed all the accents for the different nationalities. Made the characters so much more memorable! The story and mysteries were good, but it is fairly dark and quite bloody.
Grating 'Irish' Inflection
Serp Rivleau
David Clarke reads his Sherlock Holmes stories quite well... but when he puts on a Scottish or Irish accent for characters, he reads almost every sentence with exactly the same inflection regardless of context. If only those characters had minor parts it would be tolerable, but here where they are present and speaking for so much of the book it becomes very irritating to my ear, and causes a secondary main character to sound as though he treats every circumstance equally casually even when he is meant to be very serious. For the other characters and the narration, I have no complaint. It's this one issue that I found I could not ignore which thoroughly distracted me from enjoyment of the story.
One of Conan Doyle's best.

I thought I had read all of the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Doyle, I don't know how I missed this one. In my opinion, this is one of Doyle's best Holmes stories. The narrator did a splendid job reading, he made a great story even better! thank you.
