The Romance of Helen Trent was a CBS soap opera that aired from 1933 to 1960, created by the prolific producers Frank and Anne Hummert. Each program opened with the iconic line, "And now, The Romance of Helen Trent, the real-life drama of Helen Trent, who, when life mocks her, breaks her hopes, dashes her against the rocks of despair, fights back bravely, successfully, to prove what so many women long to prove, that because a woman is 35 or more, romance in life need not be over, that romance can begin at 35."

The storyline revolved around a 35-year-old dressmaker who captivated men as she worked her way up to become the chief Hollywood costumer designer. Helen was portrayed by three different actresses over the years, with Virginia Clark playing the role for 11 years and Julie Stevens taking over for 16 years. Throughout the show's 7,222 episodes, Helen never married and always remained 35, despite her long-running beau, Gil Whitney.

An unusual incident during a 1948 broadcast became legendary when an unexpected voice interrupted the show, leading to a memorable moment that shocked listeners. Despite the drama, the show maintained a loyal following, showcasing the resilience and romantic aspirations of women.
