The Garden of Eden
Max Brand
Read by Richard Kilmer (1942-2022)
Ben Connor is a gambler who knows horses. He goes out west to get away from the gambling life he has been leading in New York. There he discovers a breed of grey horses that he thinks are the best horses he has ever seen. The problem is that these horses are bred in a secret valley known as the Garden of Eden and that outsiders are not welcome there. Connor sees these horses as a means of getting rich on the race tracks, but how to get one is a problem.
A great horse story coupled with the typical excitement one expects from Max Brand makes this a great book. - Summary by Richard Kilmer (7 hr 42 min)

Reviews
what a strange story
Akku
Well it kept me interested. I have to say I hated all the main characters in it by the end of it. I guess it’s intended as a sort of morality tale but I’m left wondering what the moral of the story is. The readers pleasant timbre of voice made it a relaxing listen
STRANGE EVEN FOR BRAND
Avid Listener
I would classify this not as a western, but as an allegory. Brand has unique plots, but this one is his high-point. It is almost like a delirious dream. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable, especially since it was read by RK.

Agree....allegorical aspect.. the title was the draw... a western ???...written so I constantly thought about the ending which did not play out to any of my scenarios...the characters are crisp and clear... the ending abrupt but expected...unique story so I recommend
Parallels to the Bible

If you like deep thinking and drawing biblical parallels, ya found your new favorite audiobook! I do, AND I love the reader; hence 5 stars and a great review! Max Brand for President 2024!

Very strange story line. Ended abruptly and left me wondering why I listened to the entire thing. Guess I was bored. Poorly written, under developed and abrupt ending. Waste of my time.

This is one of the best stories by Max brand. It has some interesting plot twists to it, but all turns out very nice. One of my favorites.
Roughout
I could never get into this novel. I've listened to and somewhat enjoyed the reader but he annoyed me in this novel. I didn't finish the last few chapters.

Love all things Max Brand. Story ended too abruptly but still enjoyable. Richard Kilmer as the reader makes this a great book.
