Amazing collection for a cleric of the day
A lot of good stories, some bad readers
Harry Haller
I found nearly all of the stories to be quite good, and some, perhaps most, of the readers are good. A few of the readers are even outstanding, but a few are not so good, and a couple are terrible. With one guy, I thought at first that it might be computer-generated speech--and, unfortunately, that guy reads many, many stories, in this book and others. He consistently says the wrong word--e.g., "intimate" is always, without fail, read as "intimidate". But worst of all, his rhythm is monotonous, and his emphasis is nearly always on the wrong word. About halfway through the book, I had to start skipping every story read by him, which, sadly, comprises many of them. His reading really is that unbearable. On the other hand, several readers, most of them from the UK or another Commonwealth nation judging by the accents, are excellent. They are are as good as professional actors or story-tellers, or nearly so. In summary, I highly recommend the story collection, but wish a lot of them were read by someone else.
some interesting stories, some deeply racist

yeah this guy was a mixed bag. he really treated black and brown people with a lot of contempt, it was disgusting, n-word used at least once. that being said there were some truely worthwhile pieces like little joe gander that was heartwrenching and displayed a surprising amount of empathy for the differently abled. this is just an fyi for those that want to avoid racist literature, definitely a hard pass on that front

These stories are like comfort food on a rainy night. I come back to to them time and the rest of the books time and time again. The narrators are awesome. Thank you 😊
