I liked it a lot

(5 Sterne)

Sorry Mike did not like this book. I really enjoyed it. I had never heard of this author, but I thought his writing was marvellous. I loved the descriptions of the stormy sea, the icebergs, and the idea of all these dead pirates lying around is nice and creepy. Wonderful reading too.

Bravo from Borneo

I count myself extremely fortunate to have come across this author precisely at the time of finishing all of Frederick Marryat's available audio books. This is a remarkable yarn and what must have been such an innovative premise for this time of writing. There is great detail and character development as well as a judicious amount of jeopardy and tension. I loved it. Now on to my next book by the author!

FINE FANTASY

(5 Sterne)

Some may think it too wordy. but I think that very verbosity lends an air of reality to a man alone in virtually fatal situations. I thought it strange that a single reader did so much of the reading, yet Librivox felt the necessity to have a few others read chapters. This robbed me of the opportunity to seek other works read by BD. She did well. even if she is not familiar with the Thames River.

Had Potential

Moves along too slowly. I fast forwarded through a lot of the first 10 to 12 chapters, way too much text spent describing the color of the water, sky and ice. When the pirate finally shows up it gets interesting but fails to deliver.

Arrrrrrhh Matey‼️A Pesky Pirate Tale

William Clark Russell penned this entertaining novel with a hint of sci-fi flavoring- adding a few twists that yield an impressive and refreshing survival yarn. The narration was very good as well.

Overall, good. Worth listening to.

Good story though very slightly long winded. Charming pronunciation of the Thames.

Ripping Yarn

(5 Sterne)

Another vote in favor of this book. The author was a popular writer of sea stories in the 19th Century. This book was published in 1887. Russel came by his knowledge of the sea honestly, having served as a sailor for 8 years. He was so well known that Arthur Conan Doyle mentioned him in one of his Sherlock Holmes stories. Despite the implausiblity of the plot, I couldn't put this book down. Well written and convincing--truly a Ripping Yarn.

I couldn't get into this book

I listened to the first six chapters of this book 2x and just couldn't get into the book. It was very boring. I would expect it to pick up a bit after six chapters, but nope, just not interesting. The readers were good, no complaints, the book itself was just boring. I will probably try again another time to see if it draws me in.
