Shell Chateau

English

Shell Chateau was a variety program hosted by Al Jolson, with music, comedy, and guest appearances. Its relaxed, theatrical style brought Jolson’s energetic personality to a mix of entertainment rather than a single continuing story.

The program featured songs and comic material alongside visiting performers. This recording is identified with Henry Fonda, offering a glimpse of the show’s guest-centered variety format and the blend of performance and conversation that made radio variety programs distinctive.

Jolson’s exuberant presence gives the broadcast a lively, show-business feel, while the changing mix of music and guest entertainment keeps the listening experience varied.

This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
