The Bell Telephone Hour is a concert program devoted to classical music and other forms of serious performance. Its broadcasts bring celebrated singers and instrumentalists to radio listeners, presenting music as the centerpiece rather than as part of a dramatic story.
This recording features Marian Anderson, the renowned contralto, whose rich, expressive voice made her one of the most admired singers of her era. The program offers a chance to hear her in a concert setting, with the focus on vocal performance and musical interpretation.
The atmosphere is formal yet welcoming: a carefully presented musical event designed for attentive listening at home. For listeners drawn to classical vocal music, Anderson’s appearance gives this broadcast a distinctive and compelling focus.
This recording is part of the Old Time Radio collection.
