Frances Eleanor Trollope
A scathing criticism of social climbing underlies this unsettling story by Frances Eleanor Trollope, sister-in-law to Anthony and daughter-in-law to Frances Milton Trollope. Published in 1876, A Charming Fellow is a serious exploration of a bitterly unhappy marriage and its consequences, as seen through the eyes of diverse, well-drawn characters. Charming!?
Julia D
The reader is excellent! She reads with expression and I enjoyed the different voices for different characters. her performance was, in fact, charming. As for the story... I enjoyed it but did not like the final part of the book. If you prefer for scheming rascals to get their just desserts this may not be the book for you. How infuriated I was at some of the characters and circumstances is probably a testament to how good the author is though. Overall it WAS a well written book, just not my cup of tea.
A very satisfying read

This is a great story from start to finish. There are quite a few characters and I found that tricky to track, but that’s how I am generally. Plot has a good pace and characters are well-developed. Great reading, too. Thanks so much!
Well-written, but tragic

It IS a very good book which made my cry. The ending is tragic, but it is well-written and deep. The first half is very classical and nothing tells that is will become so sad and emotional.

excellent reader! It's an undeservedly little known novel with well-drawn characters, sharp wit, and relentless skewering of hypocrisy and pretension. it's a novel of manners with a Dickensian ending.
