The Hound of the Baskervilles is the third of the four crime novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes. Originally serialised in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902, it is set largely on Dartmoor in Devon in England's West Country and tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome, diabolical hound of supernatural origin. Sherlock Holmes and his companion Dr. Watson investigate the case. I use libravox to help me get to sleep as the poor quality recordings require such concentration that it really helps me to drift off...... However, this doesn't work for David Clarkes recordings as I end up staying up all night listening to the whole book!

I enjoy this reader. I highly recommend looking for his other readings. I have always loved Sherlock Holmes and this version made me want to find more read by this reader.

I listen to all of David Clarke’s narrations over and over. I love his warm regular voice and the various accents he employs. My only sorrow is that there are not more books read by him. I love all of the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ works. Thanks to those employed in bringing this to the public, including narrators, administrators and proofreaders, who give pleasure to millions and do so generously, for no reward.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is told more from Dr. Watson’s perspective than many of the other stories about Sherlock Holmes. This makes it a mystery that the listener can step into and try to figure out. David Clark does a wonderful job at reading. He definitely makes the story come alive.

As usual David Clark makes the mystery come alive and keeps it exciting throughout. We are so fortunate to have him as a reader.. Enjoyable although very long. Very exciting at the end.

This is my favourite out of the four Sherlock Holmes novels, and David Clarke's narration goes wonderfully well with the Holmes world. I especially love how we follow Watson without Holmes for a good chunk of the book, so that the mystery feels more mysterious and ominous. Something about Sherlock's existence itself puts me at ease, but for this story I enjoyed not having that assurance for a while. Still, as all crime mysteries, it's a grim tale.

Bravo! Bravo! Finally, this well known and renowned book is no longer a mystery, and it certainly did not disappoint. What makes ACD such a brilliant writer is his ability to describe in such perfect detail even the most prosaic of situations. As always, Chapeau to David Clarke who is such a very accomplished narrator and brings each character to life. So, now just one more novel to go; wonderful!
