George Sutherland and Alexander Sutherland
This work provides a history of the early political, social, and economic development of Australia and New Zealand. Since both British colonies became independent countries in the 1900s, this work does not relate those events. NOTE: As this work was written by Victorian-era Australian authors, the attitudes conveyed regarding indigenous peoples are of that period and may offend some listeners today. Politically Complete

It is embarrassing to know practically nothing about an entire continent! I now know a lot more about Australia and New Zealand--well, a lot more about the history of the Europeans who colonized them and drew the maps. The book is very complete as to explorers, politicians, skirmishes, and economics. Unfortunately, as a product of it's time, there is no mention of the smallpox epidemics which burned through the Aboriginal population in several waves, or the successive ecological disasters which also accompanied the colonists. Probably I need books that are still copyright-protected. The narration is very good; thank you, volunteers.
