The novel tells of the troubles of a wealthy young girl, Sara Crewe, who is sent to an oppressive London boarding school during her father’s campaign in India. Thanks to Capt. Crewe’s money, Sara is treated as a little princess until, one day, word comes of her father’s tragic death. Miss Minchin, the school’s greedy headmistress, wastes no time in putting the now-penniless Sara to work for her room and board. It is only through the friendship of two other girls, her own resolute nature, and some astonishing luck that Sara eventually finds her way back to happiness. A Little Princess

A lovely story. Because I saw there were three versions by different readers I listened to parts of all three versions and enjoyed them all. It is a little silly habit of mine to usually say 'the reader' instead of calling them by name, perhaps because it seems too familiar to do otherwise, but not this time. Version 1 is read by Kara Shallenberg, and it is my favorite. Kara reads clearly, with a certain ironic twist when recounting the follies of the 'baddies' and it's so refreshing I love listening to it. Karen Savage reads Version 2 and she is as always accurate, putting excellent emphasis on her narrative, great. Version 3 is read by Elizabeth Klett, her sweet voice makes the story sound more tender and soulful, and it is already, on its own merits. In my mind all readers have the right to say they are 5 stars readers of A Little Princess. (Hope the version numbers are accurate). Thanks to all. : )

Very good reading. I really enjoyed it. The author really understood how the human's mind works. I will be listening to this authors other works and read by the same reader, she is awesome with her voices, the feelings that she brings to her readings are beautiful. Thankyou for a job well done!

An emotionally wonderful story through incredibly soothing voice.

I just loved it. And the fact the voice was so soothing and clear made me hear it over and over. It really soothed my soul and made me realise the reality of the world we live in and how random acts of kindness can change ones life. Amazing.

One of my favorite childhood classics!

Kara Shallenberg does an excellent job narrating a beloved childhood favorite of mine. I remember how in the third grade, during a classroom party, one of the girls brought in the 1939 version of the movie, starring Shirley Temple. She played our heroine so well! I then read the book and feel further in love with "our princess". I've watched the 1995 version too. I love both movies and highly recommend them to anyone who enjoyed this book. Francis Hodgson Burnett truly understood the minds and gentle souls of small children! The Secret Garden is just as enjoyable, so I recommend that book as well

A Great Narration

I was first introduced to this story through a film which I thoroughly enjoyed. But, hearing this narrative grew my understanding of Sara and her journey. Sara is a noble soul, and her fictional life has inspired me in quite a few ways. Thank you narrator for delivering this tale with such charm. It was literally enchanting.

just superb

I read this to my children twenty years ago. I enjoyed the book then and enjoyed it more this time by listening to Kara's narration - far better than mine! This book is a gem, a wonderful escapism from modern life. Thank you Kara for your beautiful reading.

A good book, I've read it & listened to it!

I have the original version of the book, and it's a bit different than the audiobook. Every

I LOVE this book- even at 32!

I read this book as a young girl, it had been SO long and I am so much older now that I wasn't sure how I'd like it this time around- but I LOVED it! A must read. Or, in this case, a must listen, I suppose :)
