The Christmas Show Ever wonder what it's like to reach beyond the protected confines of your insular world and achieve a single, brief, shining moment where you’re face to face with the transcendent beauty you had only dared to imagine possible? How does it feel to relish in that ecstatic instant when your wildest dreams are actualized and then, all too soon, are lost forever and you’re haunted by the memory of that loss for the rest of your life? How do you hold onto that instant when over time your memory of it fades and you can’t even convince yourself that it actually happened much less that it really meant anything in the grand scope of things?   In 1957, a host talented adventurers traveled the country purveying a new pop-culture gospel to preteen baby boomers. Their efforts changed an adolescent fad into a generational force and their siren songs signaled a seminal change that would forever alter the way society viewed itself. These balladeers trail blazed a formerly black and white world becoming the colorful vanguard for all who would follow them.   Once famous, most of these shadowy legends have faded into the background residing among us, yet now, only as unrecognized faces in the crowd. Their exploits are whispered about by aging aficionados but their history remains a mystery to contemporary beneficiaries. "The Christmas Show" is the story of one forgotten folk hero’s last chance for relevance. The consequences of his life choices reveal the multifaceted relationship between the musician and his music, the performer and his audience, the lover and his beloved, and the believer and his belief.   The tale begins the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday vacationer breakfasts with his childhood mentor. During casual conversation, the retiring teacher inadvertently reveals his secret past life. Intrigued by this revelation, the former student embarks on a journey of discovery through which he’s forced to question the meaning of music, celebrity, faith, love, and the implications of one mystical moment on popular culture.   Along the way, the former student’s efforts to substantiate his mentor’s significance becomes a quest to restore his own lost calling. The search allows him to do the penance he must endure and gives him the absolution he so desperately desires. At the same time, his teacher’s example reaffirms the most valuable lesson of all; the ultimate meaning that every single moment in anyone’s life has: no matter how humble, no matter how seemingly inconsequential
