The Bertrams
Gelesen von Arnold
Anthony Trollope
This is a massive effort, taking place in England and the Middle East, with a cast of thousands... Well, not thousands, fortunately, but certainly a great many. There are three Bertrams present: Sir Lionel, his son George (our hero), and the wealthy uncle. The primary story involves the joining of two couples (following some rocky periods), and the disposal of the uncle's fortune. The more amusing bits focus on peripheral characters in the social settings of a fictional town and in travel on board ship or touring Egypt. Trollope digresses from time to time to lecture us on religion, politics, and eccentricities of the British tourist. (Summary by Arnold Banner) (24 hr 2 min)

Trollope turns his characters "inside out"

I did enjoy this fascinating story. I think one of the morals of the story is that greed brings disaster. I wish I thought so but these days it really doesn't seem to be so. But this is Trollope's world and I like it better. Arnold – what a beautiful reading, thank you.

very good depiction of experiencing the consequences of ones actions. Oh the troubles we bring upon ourselves and others. Was sorry for Mr Hardcores demise. The forgiveness and grace of God. Arnold Baner is an excellent reader.
OKAY EARLY TROLLOPE

The reader did a nice job. Thank you. This was Trollop’s first book. You can tell. Many chapters were tangential and boring. But t I love Trollope and I don’t think the book was a waste of time. He knows how to draw you in to whatever world he is spinning.
