SERMON 12102022
Rev. Stephanie Christoffels
Be prepared. It’s often the message shared with the focus text for this week: The Parable of the Bridesmaids. As we continue to explore “Imperfect Hospitality” Pastor Stephanie has a different take on the “foolish bridesmaids.” Perhaps what made them foolish was not running our of oil for their lamps but their focus on a secondary concern. The bridesmaids primary role was to welcome the bridal party to the celebration. By focusing on their lamps and running off to refuel them they missed the arrival of the bridegroom. Pastor Stephanie encourages us to remember our primary concern: loving God and loving our neighbors as ourselves. Providing the hospitality of a warm welcome to our neighbors is an expression of love and providing for the stranger is reflection of God’s love. As we ready our homes & hearts to welcome the baby Jesus we remember that Christmas is not about being prepared but about being present!
