A reflection of its time

Nice biography, if a bit sensationalized. You can tell it was written close to the time of the events - in fact, it ends before Jesse was caught or killed. The language used is flowery and verbose, like the newspaper stories of the time. The author tries to not commend the James brothers, but he admires their daring, cunning, and skill. There are a lot of side stories, not directly related to the James brothers but about secondary characters in their gang or those who try to capture him. It's all interesting, however. "Mankato" is pronounced often and wrongly in chapters 37 & 38. Drove me crazy, being from that area. Otherwise, the reader was splendid.
