When God Laughs, and Other Stories

Read by Don W. Jenkins

(4.2 stars; 27 reviews)

This collection of Jack London's short stories touches on a variety of topics, from his love of boxing, to relationships between criminals, to the trials of life and travel on many frontiers, to an allegory about a king who desired a nose. London is considered a master of the short story, a form much more to his liking and personality than his novels. He was active and quick of mind and the short story suited him well. - Summary by Don W. Jenkins (5 hr 6 min)

Worst stories I ever listened to. Everyone has tragic ending. Everyone considers the God of this creation only wants to torture His children and takes delight in their misery. Sorry I wasted my time listening to all of them in the hope at least one had a silver lining in the clouds that darkly covered the lot. Not at all like Jack London.

Jack London is God. One reviewer was sorry he devoted the time to listen to all of the stories as he was looking for one with "a silver lining." I've got news for this reviewer: life is tough and then you die. Pessimists have a more accurate concept of reality than optimists.

These stories really hit home and land heavy. Jack London is a master and these tales were great to listen to. They were well read. I highly recommend a listen!
