Crime and Punishment

Crime and Punishment focuses on the mental anguish and moral dilemmas of Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, an impoverished St. Petersburg student who formulates and executes a plan to kill a hated, unscrupulous pawnbroker for her money, thereby solving his financial problems and at the same time, he argues, ridding the world of evil. Crime and Punishment is considered by many as the first of Dostoevsky's cycle of great novels, which would culminate with his last completed work, The Brothers Karamazov, shortly before his death. Reviews

Poor

(1 stars)

I appreciate that the reader has given their time and effort. But this is a poor reading. Can't believe this is the only reading they have of this important piece of literature.

Keep listening

(3 stars)

A combination of poor recording quality and a somewhat monotone reading make the first two books difficult to listen to. But after that point the reader changes and the rest of the readers are much better. As another reviewer pointed out though, who can complain about FREE? I for one have been extremely blessed to have books that I wanted to read but don't have time for available for free to listen to. :)

Part 1 needs a remake

(3 stars)

Part 1 of this should really be opened for a re-read if it isn't already. This the poorest reading quality I have seen from librivox yet. It is better then nothing I guess. But it needs to be opened so if anyone want to do a better recording of part 1 then can. Part 2 and onwards are good.

The 2nd half is better

(4 stars)

I switched to reading Part 1 because the phrasing was disjointed by the reader making it impossible for me to follow or appreciate the recording. The cadence in the first few sections of Part 2 had the same effect. The readers after that point did a good job. It's a 5-star book. Discounting the first 2 readers, I give the rest of them a cumulative 4 stars

UGH!

The first reader is horrible! I tried to listen, when I was reading the book it was a lil interesting..but with that reader on part 1 was horrid! I am going to stick to reading it out of my book instead for now :/

My favorite novel. Unfortunately, Impossible to listen to. The .majority of the reading was atrocious and physically painful to listen to. PLEASE RERECORD!

Excellent!

First, this is a Beautiful story! Second, it is wonderfully read by most of the readers. I actually really enjoyed the first reader the most. It’s a Russian novel! Therefore, his heavy accent was well suited to the task and his pronunciation many times was amusing rather than annoying. I thought that the american voices were actually the annoying ones. Anyway, I’m so glad to have finally “read” this book. Not at all what I expected: waaaaay better! Thank you, LibraVox.

Not a Good Reader

(1 stars)

The reader seems to have a problem breathing and does not accentuate as one would in normal conversation, very monotone. He reads so slow, to the point where I have to concentrate on him so intently in order not to forget what he's said at the beginning of the sentence. Sadly this reading has made the book boring instead of intriguing. I hope another version is uploaded.
