Set in late Victorian England, “Consequences” follows the life of Alexandra Clare, a girl born into an upper class Catholic London family. Raised from birth for the privileged life of a wife and mother, Alexandra never quite fits in with her or her family’s expectations and fails at seemingly everything she tries – school, the marriage market, family life. Oh Deah Oh Deah Oh Deah

(3.5 stars)

Great reading of such a tragedy. Makes me realize how good is my life. So many old stories are romantic, and sometimes makes one long for the old days. Not always such an easy path, especially for women. The main character seemed so pathetic, but really simply clueless and lost. Self reliance and serenity seem to me so much better than CO-dependence and worrying what others think.

Spectacular and Heartbreaking

(5 stars)

This is a beautifully written story of Alexandra, a gentle, bewildered woman trying to live in a world filled with people who can't understand her. She searches for love and acceptance first from her family, her fiancé, and her faith. When these fail her, she believes there is but one alternative...

great reader wasted on terrible story

(2 stars)

the reader was great. I enjoyed her voice, accents, and inflections. the writer wrote well, but the plot was incredibly hard to listen to... I regret wasting the time listening to this story. the main character wastes her love, her devotion, and her life.

Fascinating story - Excellent reader

Thin was my introduction to E. M. Delafield. It certainly wasn't a predictable plot. Totally engrossing. Caroline Driggs made it extra yummy.

Beautifully read, sad story

This is book that I enjoyed. The narrator is excellent. The story is a bit sad.

Great reader, disappointing book.

(2 stars)

I didn’t get anything inspiring or uplifting from this book and that was disappointing.

It's dark, perhaps not for everyone

(3 stars)

Good reading of a well-written yet dark story.

Consequences

Loved the narrator, but this book is so sad and horribly depressing.
